Disclaimer
Our calculators are educational tools, not financial advice.
Not financial advice
Nothing on this website constitutes financial, investment, tax, legal or lending advice, and no content should be treated as a recommendation to buy, borrow, save or invest. We do not know your full circumstances and cannot advise on them.
What the calculators do not include
- Income tax, sales tax and local levies unless you enter them yourself.
- Inflation, wage growth and changes in interest rates over time.
- Lender fees, early-repayment charges, deposits and insurance excesses.
- Your credit history, which determines the rates actually available to you.
- Irregular income, bonuses, benefits and seasonal expenses.
Rules of thumb are general
Guidelines such as a three-month emergency fund, a 20% savings rate or the 20/4/10 car rule are widely used starting points, not laws. Reasonable people and reasonable advisers disagree about them, and your own situation may justify a different figure.
When to get professional advice
For mortgages, large loans, debt problems, tax questions or investment decisions, speak to a qualified, regulated professional in your country. If you are struggling with debt, a non-profit debt advice service can usually help free of charge.
Accuracy
We test our formulas and publish them on each calculator page so you can check them. If you believe a result is wrong, please tell us via the contact page and we will investigate.
